Student  understands the structure and function of skin and its appendages with a view to its clinical application.

  1. Papulosquamous Disorders (Psoriasis, Lichen planus, Pityriasis rosea, Erythroderma)

Student is able to diagnose and treat as syndromic management for genital ulcer and inguinal bubo. Aetiology, Clinical manifestations and treatment will be covered Student Interactive Session One hour
  1. Viral STDs (Herpes genitalis, Condylomata acuminata)
Student is able to diagnose and treat Herpes genetalis. Refer cases of genital warts to specialist Aetiology, Clinical manifestations and treatment will be covered Student Interactive Session One hour
  1.  HIV infection-cutaneous manifestations and their management
Student should know the common cutaneous manifestations in HIV infection. Cutaneous manifestations in HIV and their management in brief will be covered. Student Interactive Session One hour
  1.  Syndromic management of STDs
Student is able to diagnose and treat various STDs as syndromes to decrease the transmission of STDs and HIV. Genital ulcer, inguinal bubo, urethral discharge, testicular pain in males and lower abdominal pain in females and ophthalmia neonatorum syndromes are covered in the form of flow charts Student Interactive Session One hour

  1. Leprosy – II
Student is able to diagnose and refer cases of reaction to the specialist. Type 1 and 2 lepra reactions will be covered Student Interactive Session One hour
  1.  Leprosy -III
Student is able to administer MDT-PB and MDT-MB to uncomplicated cases of leprosy. Complications of leprosy and MDT-PB, MDT-MB and treatment of complication will be covered. Student Interactive Session One hour

CLINICAL POSTINGS
During the training period the students will have two weeks of clinical posting in the Department during 7th semester.
Demonstration
The common skin and STDs covered in Student Interactive Session lectures will be demonstrated during clinics. The students will be taught dermatological history taking, examination, recording of skin lesions, prescription writing, performing various laboratory tests, collection of samples, topical therapy, minor surgical procedures like electric and chemical cautery, intralesional injection, occlusive dressings, compression, soaks and baths.
EXAMINATION PATTERN

  1. Internal Assessment: Internal assessment examination at the end of course content during 6th semester and for practical at the end of clinical posting in 7th semester.
  2. Theory: A separate section in Medicine Paper II.
  3. Practical: Common Skin, STDs or leprosy case may form part of Medicine practical examination at the end of 9th semester.
